I am an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University. I have a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University, where I also earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
My research and teaching interests include collaborative analysis and problem-solving in teams; online collaboration and collective intelligence; and managing multiple team memberships. My research has been published in Science, Organization Science, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Small Group Research, and Research on Managing Groups and Teams, among others. My research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Army Research Office, and private corporations.
I have served on the editorial board for Organization Science, Academy of Management Discoveries, and Small Group Research, and am a member of the Academy of Management, the Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research, and the Association for Psychological Science.
I grew up in Skowhegan, Maine. I graduated from Skowhegan Area High School.
My father is Guy J. Williams, who retired in 2000 from Skowhegan Savings Bank. I am the youngest of five children, with four older brothers: Andy Williams, who is a Vice President and General Manager at Pittsburgh Corning; Larry Williams, a music teacher at Poland High School in Maine and leader of the Larry Williams Band; Gary Williams, a faculty member at Crafton Hills College in California; and Patrick Williams, a System Director at Covenant Health in Massachusetts. We unfortunately lost our dear mother, Constance Hallee Williams, to breast cancer in 2004.
